INK Autumn 2024 Script Writing Courses

Online and in-person workshops


COURSE 1: In-person workshop

Leiston – Mixed Ability – FREE

AIM: To create a short script of no more than 15 minutes for stage or radio, with ideally a maximum of 4 characters (no monologues). These will be considered for inclusion in the INK Festival 2025. 

REQUIREMENT / SIGN UP: Email your expression of interest to richard@satheatre.co.uk by Sunday 1 September at 11.59pm at the latest.

Please send 2 pages max of dialogue for consideration

DATES: Thursdays: 26 September; 10 & 24 October; 7, 21 & 28 November 2024

Each session is 90 minutes (40 mins 10 minute break 40 mins).  Final 1 or 2 sessions showcase readings for INK team.

TIME:  7.00pm – 8.30pm

LOCATION:

Leiston United Church Hall, High Street, Leiston, Suffolk IP16 4EL

NUMBER of writers:  6 – 12

AGE: 18+

COURSE LEADER: Richard Reeves

Richard read English and Theatre Studies at Warwick and trained at Bristol Old Vic. He has had a wide-ranging career in Theatre, Film, and TV, and has written for the stage since 1988 with his award-winning company Confederacy of Fools, produced from Fringe to West End. Since 2019 he has been Artistic Director of Southwold and Aldeburgh summer theatres. 

COURSE 2: In-person workshop

Ipswich Waterfront – Mixed Ability – FREE

AIM: To create a short script of no more than 15 minutes for stage or radio, with ideally a maximum of 4 characters (no monologues). These will be considered for inclusion in the INK Festival 2025. 

REQUIREMENT: Email your expression of interest to katie@katieward.co.uk by Sunday 1 September 2024 at 11.59pm at the latest.

Please send a 2 pages max extract of your creative writing for consideration (e.g. stage play, screenplay or fictional dialogue) plus a 100-word paragraph in email explaining why you would like to participate.

DATES:  Mondays – 30 September; 14 & 28 October; 11 & 25 November 2024. Final 1 or 2 sessions showcase readings for INK team.

TIME:  5.45pm – 8.00pm

LOCATION:

University of Suffolk, Waterfront Building, 19 Neptune Quay, Ipswich IP4 1QJ

MAXIMUM NUMBER of writers: 10

AGE: 18+

GROUP LEADERS: Ann Bryson and Katie Ward

Ann Bryson has appeared on TV and stage including the West End. She has been supporting new playwrights and the development of new plays for several years.
Katie Ward is an award-winning author and creative writing teacher. She has run Wolsey Writers at New Wolsey Theatre since 2015. Her new novel, Pathways, is out now.
A partnership with University of Suffolk.

COURSE 3: Online Workshop – Beginners – FREE

AIM: To create a short script of no more than 15 minutes for stage or radio, with ideally a maximum of 4 characters (no monologues). These will be considered for inclusion in the INK Festival 2025.

REQUIREMENT: Expression of interest to  tassatide@gmail.com by Sunday 29 September  at 11.59pm at the latest. Please send one sentence around what you would like to get out of the course.

DATES: Mondays – 21 Oct – 9 Dec  2024

8 sessions  – Final 1 or 2 sessions showcase readings for INK team + opportunity for sharing  feedback.

 TIME:  7.00pm – 8.00pm

 NUMBER of writers:  2 – 10

 AGE: 18+

COURSE LEADER: Tassa Deparis

Tassa is a Suffolk-based playwright. Locally she has worked as Creative Facilitator with New Wolsey Theatre, Flight of Escales, Babylon Theatre Arts and HighTide Theatre. She is currently writer in residence for High Tide and has had her work performed at Soho Theatre, ArtsDept, English Theatre berlin, Park Theatre and Theatre 503.

COURSE 4: Online workshop – Intermediate – FREE

AIM: To create a short script of no more than 15 minutes for stage or radio, with ideally a maximum of 4 characters (no monologues). These will be considered for inclusion in the INK Festival 2025.

REQUIREMENT: Please submit your expression of interest and up to 4 pages of script by completing this quick form by Sunday 8 September at 11.59pm at the latest.

DATES:  Tuesdays:  1, 8, 15, 22, 29 October; 5 & 12 November 2024.  12 November   – a longer showcase session with professional actors reading the scripts.

TIME:  6.30pm – 7.30pm

 NUMBER of writers: 4 – 12

 Age: 18+

COURSE LEADER: Martha Loader

Martha is an award-winning writer, actor and producer. Her work has been performed across the UK and internationally. She won the Judges Award at the Bruntwood Prize for Playwriting 2022 for her play ‘Bindweed’.
She is currently working on commissions with New Wolsey Theatre, Menagerie Theatre Company and the Almeida Theatre. This year she was part of the 4Screenwriting and BBC Voices programmes.
