Mark Ravenhill

Mark Ravenhill is an English playwright, actor, and journalist, renowned for his influential works in British theatre. He is best known for his provocative plays such as Shopping and Fucking (1996), Some Explicit Polaroids (1999), and Mother Clap's Molly House (2000), which explore themes of identity, sexuality, and societal critique. Ravenhill's writing often blends punk aggression with intellectual commentary, pushing boundaries in both form and content. In addition to his stage works, Ravenhill has worked in radio, music theatre, and as a librettist, and has contributed to television with projects like Vicious (2013–2016). He was appointed co-artistic director of the King's Head Theatre in 2021 and has since focused on promoting queer and LGBTQ+ works. His career spans a variety of genres and mediums, making him one of the most significant voices in contemporary British theatre.
