Simon Nye

SIMON NYE’s writing career encompasses translating, novels, theatre, sitcoms, drama, adaptations, animation and film. But his focus has always been comedy and drama with a broad appeal.

Simon translated books before turning to fiction. He adapted his first novel MEN BEHAVING BADLY into a hit situation comedy. Simon’s drama series FRANK STUBBS was based on his second novel WIDEBOY. His IS IT LEGAL? won best ITV Sitcom at the British Comedy Awards. Critically-acclaimed HOW DO YOU WANT ME? on BBC2 ran alongside four ITV pantomimes.

Over the years Simon has had stints in Los Angeles with his family, reformatting UK shows and writing on the movie FLUSHED AWAY.

TV films followed: THE RAILWAY CHILDREN, POLLYANNA, TUNNEL OF LOVE, OPEN WIDE, CATWALK DOGS and MY FAMILY & OTHER ANIMALS. But Simon’s priority was still comedy with the vet series BEAST, family sitcom THE SAVAGES, WILD WEST, Bafta- nominated HARDWARE and several more.

In recent years he has refocused on drama, winning a Bafta for JUST WILLIAM, writing an episode of DOCTOR WHO because his children insisted, and biopic TOMMY COOPER: NOT LIKE THAT, LIKE THIS. More recently Simon wrote and exec-produced all 20 episodes of THE DURRELLS, and two series of THE LARKINS.

Simon’s first love is the theatre - he worked in box offices throughout his 20s and has translated for the stage DON JUAN, ACCIDENTAL DEATH OF AN ANARCHIST (Donmar Warehouse), and written THE CROWN JEWELS (Garrick).
