John morton

John Morton is a British writer and director best known for creating the BBC comedy People Like Us, which starred Chris Langham as the inept documentary maker Roy Mallard. He is also the creator and writer of several other popular BBC comedies, including The Sunday Format, Broken News, W1A, and Twenty Twelve.

Morton began his career in 1990, leaving his job as an English teacher to pursue writing. His first success came with People Like Us, which aired on BBC Radio 4 from 1995 and won multiple awards, including the Sony Radio Award and the Writer's Guild Award for Best Radio Comedy. The series was later adapted for BBC Two.

Throughout his career, Morton has created and written several notable comedy series, including The Sunday Format for BBC Radio 4 and Kiss Me Kate for BBC One. In 2001, he wrote The Gist, a one-off spoof arts review show for the launch of BBC Four. He co-created Broken News in 2005 and went on to write and direct Twenty Twelve (2011), a satirical comedy about the London 2012 Olympics.

In 2022, Morton directed the British remake of the French series Call My Agent! (Dix pour cent), titled Ten Percent, which streamed on Amazon Prime. Morton is known for his distinctive comedic style, blending satire with affection, and continues to be a significant figure in British television comedy.
