INK Beginner Script Writing Workshops

Have you always wanted to write a play for stage or radio?
Have you written a play but would like help to make it “stage-ready”?

If so, then our Beginners’ Script Writing Workshops may be for you.

Ten workshops will be run on ZOOM on alternate Wednesdays from Wednesday 28th September 2022 to Wednesday 15th February 2023 from 18.00 to 19.30.

The final workshop will be a showcase of your work and you will have the opportunity to submit a short script or excerpt of a script, for a rehearsed reading given by INK’s professional actors.  This is an amazing opportunity to have your work read by professional actors in a supportive environment.

Over the weeks, the workshops will include such topics as:

  • Writing the self.   The importance of back-story and how your own life experiences can inform your writing.
  • Creating characters.  How to give your characters depth and individual voices.
  • Basic Plot Structure.
  • The importance of re-drafting.
  • Dialogue – how to get it wrong and how to get it right.
  • The pitfalls of too much exposition – how to show, not tell.
  • Sources of Inspiration.
  • Monologues and Writing for Radio.

INK Intermediate Script Writing Workshops

Have you a radio or stage play, which is maybe started but stuck?
Have you written a play but feel it needs to go further, deeper?

If so, then our Intermediate Script Writing Workshops may be for you.

  • Maximising the drama of your situations: putting things into the present tense
  • Clarifying your characters. Taking them deeper towards your own individual experience, if appropriate, or deeper into theirs..
  • Plot Structure, pacing and rhythm. Allowing tension to build and release.
  • “Killing your babies” the importance of considering the unthinkable when editing.
  • Dialogue – how to create subtext, the difference and interplay between what a human says, and what he/she/they actually means!
  • A single word vs a ten-line speech? How to create gaps and trust actors (and the audience!) to fill them in!
  • Stylization, theatricality and the fourth wall: a consideration of non-naturalistic tropes – songs, jokes, poetry, dance, film

INK WRITERS’ FORUM

Have you written a script for stage but don’t know where to turn for feedback?

Would you like to meet with other writers in the same position and provide and receive feedback in a supportive environment?

Does the idea of having your work read by professional actors excite you?

If so, then The INK Writers’ Forum may be for you!

Writers submit short scripts or extracts from a longer script, of no more than 15 minutes in length.

At each meeting, a selection of scripts will have a ‘rehearsed reading’ given by professional actors.  Each reading will be followed by supportive and constructive feedback from fellow writers, the actors and the Forum leaders.

You will then have an opportunity to re-draft your script/extract, taking into account the feedback you have received.  You will be given a deadline for submitting the next draft of your script and this will have a second reading in subsequent weeks.

WhatShort scripts read by INK’s professional actors, discussed + feedback. Writers hone scripts before a follow on performance
